This month’s tips about watering and irrigation methods in your school garden include:
- Assess your school garden’s access to water.
- Read the Watering Your School Garden article to plan a watering method that best suits your school garden needs.
- Consider implementing some of these summer watering tips to conserve water, help prevent plant disease and to save time:
- Consider using drip tape irrigation and putting it on a timer.
- Water early in the morning whenever possible.
- Water deeply. One inch a week for established plants and more often for newly planted seeds and seedlings.
- Pay attention to rainfall and adjust your watering schedule appropriately.
- Water the soil around the plant rather than directly onto the leaves and flowers.
