This month’s tips are about supporting pollinators in your school gardens:
- Focus on planting native plants and group plants in clusters to increase impact.
- Ensure a continuous succession of blooms from spring to fall so pollinators have a continuous food supply when emerging in the spring or preparing for the winter.
- Consider including a small shallow water source with rocks or pebbles for bees, butterflies and hummingbirds to obtain water and an easy way in and out.
- Leave dead plant stems and leaves to provide a place for an overwinter shelter and clean up the area late in the spring so you don’t disturb pollinators before they emerge.
