Earn money for your school garden projects and showcase the valuable role school gardens play in hands-on education, gardening and promoting healthy eating!
We designed this calendar fundraiser for you! The results of our 2023 Network Survey informed us that you need to earn money for your school garden projects. What better way than by selling a product that celebrates the work you are doing than with a fundraiser that sells chocolate or wrapping paper or popcorn or whatever. For every sale you make, you earn $5.
Don’t think of this as that dreaded word SELLING, think of it as an OPPORTUNITY for you to earn money for your school garden projects and educate your community about the importance of school gardening, whether your school is featured in the calendar this year or not! You may be surprised how many people want to support your work by purchasing a calendar, especially if your students help with selling them and you make it easy for them to buy one.
Who are your potential customers and how can you give them the opportunity to buy a calendar? We know you are busy…see if you can sell calendars by taking advantage of ways that you and your school already have set up to sell to interested buyers.
Here are some ideas to sell the calendar to consider:
If a teacher or administrator wants to support the school garden,
- have a sample calendar in the school office or teachers lounge with order forms.
- ask your school administrator if you can have a few minutes at your next staff meeting to show a sample and pass around an order form.
- Ask if you can have a few minutes at your next PTO meeting too.
if students want to sell calendars to their parents, grandparents or neighbors,
- give your students an order form to take home to sell the calendar,
- send a flyer home with your students to let them know how to order a calendar.
If you have school events that seem like a good fit to sell calendars,
- sign up for a table during plays, concerts, sports or other events,
- team up with another school fundraiser to increase your impact,
- use the opportunity to recruit volunteers or advertise your upcoming plant sale or garden tour or work days.
if community members would like to support your school garden,
- ask a local business if they will sell the calendar for you,
- ask a local garden nursery or farmers market if you can set up a table to sell calendars (think Girl Scout cookie sales!) and advertise that you will be there,
- have calendars for sale at your school garden events such as plant sales in the spring, your farmers market stand in the summer or harvest supper in the fall.
