Located at Crescent Park School in Bethel, Mahoosuc Kids Association (MKA) is a non-profit organization that offers after-school enrichment programs for students in grades K-5 in the MSAD #44 school district. MKA programs are offered after school daily while school is in session plus an eight week Summer Adventure Program for students that will be entering Kindergarten through 6th grade that includes a gardening camp.
In Spring 2021, they launched their garden project with support from Let’s Go!, a community engagement initiative working with communities to create environments that support healthy choices sponsored by Maine Health.
Last spring Mahoosuc Kids Association launched Growing Gardeners, a four-week enrichment program where students rolled up their sleeves and got their hands in the dirt! Through planning, planting, journaling, art-making, and outdoor exploration, kids learned about the magic of gardening and the beauty of nature in their backyard.
Now that summer is in full swing, so is the garden! Thanks to the hard work and care of young gardeners, the space is blooming with life with pumpkins, tomatoes, green beans, some flowers, potatoes, and the start of strawberries.
