When was your garden project started?
We have had a garden club at Marcia Buker for several years (it pre-dates my employment in Richmond) and there is a group of staff and students (NHS being one of them) that are starting a garden club (raised beds) at Richmond Middle/High School .
What type of facility hosts your garden?
All of our gardens are outside with no facility. We just bought three new raised beds for RMHS and had two raised beds donated to MBES last year.
What programs does your garden project include?
Our Functional Life Skills program, our NHS Club, and several of the grade levels at MBES participate.
Does your garden have a paid coordinator?
Yes
Who volunteers in your garden?
The paid person is at MBES and gets a small stipend of $250.00. The people involved at RMHS are volunteers.
How is your garden project funded?
Primarily with donations
What community connections do you have?
We have a few community members who help out with flowers in the beds.
Who tends the garden when school’s out?
Volunteer teachers
What are your future goals?
To grow some vegetables to donate to our school nutrition program and the local food bank and to possibly grow flowers to improve the look of our facilities
What is your most significant need?
Funding for supplies (seeds, loam, garden soil, raised beds, hoses, spray nossels), and funding to pay a coordinator a decent stipend.
