When was your garden project started?
Before I began at the school in 2021, but had been dormant. When I came to MDNS, I began a composting program with the children and revitalized our gardens. This summer, a new greenhouse was installed too!

What type of facility hosts your garden?
It is located in the back yard of our Schoo.

What programs does your garden project include?
We integrate our garden produce into our snack program and our nursery school curriculum throughout the year.

Does your garden have a paid coordinator?
No

Who volunteers in your garden?
Me – Sarah Hinckley, teacher and director, students, staff and parents

How is your garden project funded?
It is part of our school budget.

What community connections do you have?
We collaborate with the garden manager of our town’s elementary school.

Who tends the garden when school’s out?
Me – Sarah Hinckley – teacher/director

What are your future goals?
To continue having the garden and growing process be part of our school learning environment and continue expanding it with the use of a greenhouse and other formats for growing food.

What is your most significant need?
Help with tending the garden. It is difficult to get busy parents to help and we don’t push for them to do so, as we want it to be a child-focused project for our school. But, tending even a little garden can be a lot of a director/teacher who is also focused on programming.
