When was your garden project started?
Our School Garden has been part of the school and growing for at least the past 10 years.
What type of facility hosts your garden?
Our school garden is hosted for by the school and cared for by staff, students, and parents.
What programs does your garden project include?
Our School gardens are used for classroom enrichment, afterschool programs, and to help students be part of growing food for the cafeteria.
Does your garden have a paid coordinator?
Yes
Who volunteers in your garden?
Our after school club includes staff, parent, and community volunteers.
How is your garden project funded?
Our school garden is funded by both the school and fundraising done by the afterschool club.
What community connections do you have?
Many community businesses have donated to help our garden grow. We have received soil from Adams Landscaping and Coast of Maine, wood and other building materials from our local Viking Lumber and Hammond Lumber, and we have worked with members of the local garden club to complete community gardening projects.
Who tends the garden when school’s out?
The summer care for our gardens is organized by our garden coaches. Parents and community members are encouraged to sign up to come and tend the garden.
What are your future goals?
Our gardens are constantly growing. We have recently added multiple raised beds to produce food for the cafeteria. We hope to develop this area into one that is used by multiple classrooms as an outdoor exploration space where students can explore both the growth of things and agriculture.
What is your most significant need?
At this time our most significant need would be to refurbish our greenhouse to return it to usability and develop it into a space our students can use regularly for multiple purposes. We are always excited to have help from our community in guiding students to explore new garden related topics and ideas.
