Are you interested in organizing a picnic for your school garden field trip? What food would the school provide and what would students need to bring from home? Check with your school office to find out about any requirements and for suggestions before you announce the picnic to your students!
Here are a few things to consider:
- What type of food would fit into your lesson or the place you are visiting?
- Does the location you are visiting offer an area for students to eat outside with picnic tables or inside depending on the weather? Do they have any policies about bringing in food?
- Is there food storage available onsite or do you need to bring coolers?
- Would your school cafeteria be interested in working with you to plan food for your trip? Would there be a cost? Could they provide plates and utensils or would you need to obtain those?
- Are there special storage requirements for feeding students off site? Would it be better to have students each bring a lunch or have the school cafeteria provide sack lunches for the trip?
- Do you need to get permission from parents?
- Will you have time for any games? Remember to have fun!
