The Future Farmers of America was founded almost 100 years ago by a group of educators and young farmers to prepare future generations for the challenges of feeding a growing population. Since being chartered in 1930, agriculture has continued to change to meet emerging needs.
The Maine FFA has provided thousands of students with opportunities to develop as leaders, explore their interests in agriculture and natural resources, and make meaningful impact in their schools and communities. The Maine FFA Association is driven by the National FFA mission and strives to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
The Maine FFA is led by a team of student officers who play key roles in leading workshops, communicating with stakeholders, planning state conventions and more. Maine FFA has over 300 members with chapters located throughout the state in middle and high schools including Career and Technical Education.
Opportunities within FFA include:
- Supervised Agricultural Experiences to learn more about the industry, complete research, engage in work experience, explore an area of interest
- Extracurricular Activities organized at local and state level
- Career Development and Leadership Development Events at local, state and national levels (State Convention, Big E and National FFA Convention)
- Annual Days of Service, volunteer opportunities, community development activities
- Student workshops and leadership events
- Eligibility for numerous national-level achievement awards and scholarships
- International and U.S. travel opportunities
- Partnerships with local businesses, agricultural organizations, and institutes of higher education
