What are your future goals?
Current collaborators and users of the The High School Courtyard Ecology Garden include: Lifeskills students and staff as primary users; ECOS student environmental club as supporters and donors; adult education permaculture workshop students; school administrators and custodians as supporters; and school contractor, Garbage to Gardens, as contributors within the school’s new lunchroom composting program. Guest visitors, educators and consultants have included Permaculture Designer and Resilience Hub/Portland Permaculture Meetup Director, Lisa Fernandes and Kitchen Gardener International’s Roger Doiron. Future goals include: continuing to proudly maintain the courtyard organically with no artificial inputs; incorporating permaculture principles and practices; continuing to support learning opportunities in environmental education, horticultural science and ecology; inspiring additional curriculum connections to the arts, literature, business, health, etc.; growing food for use in the school cafeteria or local food pantries; and potentially moving from the current less-visible and public inner courtyard space, to the old water tower property adjacent to the school.
