Bryant Pond
: The Univ. of Maine 4-H Camp and Learning Center at Bryant Pond is holding an open house for their gardening program, "Harvest for Health", in conjunction with Great Maine Outdoor Weekend.  A guided hike up Mt. Christopher starts at 9:30 am, followed by a local harvest lunch and tour of the garden and facilities. Chebeague Island: Chebeague Island School*, CIS Garden, 14 School House Road. 10:00 to 1:00 pm; student-led garden tours, cider pressing with local apples, veggie printing to make cards and bookmarks, games, "design a fun, healthy snack" station, showcasing garden-inspired student work; a highlight will be the new picnic shelter over the wood-fired pizza oven and outdoor classroom space. Eastport: Eastport Elementary School* and Shead High School*, 100 High St., Eastport. 9:00 to noon.  Garden Open House and Community Cider Pressing; all are invited to this family-friendly fall event, which will include delicious snacks, children's games, and fun surprises. Volunteers will lead garden tours and highlight current projects such as three-season raised beds, the greenhouse and a developing food forest. Activities will move indoors if there is rain. Edgecomb: Edgecomb Eddy School*, 157 Boothbay Rd, Edgecomb. 9:00 to Noon, rain or shine; self-guided garden tours including hoop house with greens and root veggies, garlic planting demo, garden and cafeteria composting, student garden displays, Master Gardeners on hand to answer your gardening questions; complementary apple cider and herbed popcorn; items for sale include birdhouse gourds, dried sunflower heads and garlic. Gorham: 4 Seasons Preschool and Childcare*, 10 Hickory Lane, Gorham. 3:00 to 5:00 pm; self-guided garden tours with a map drawn by the children, display of children's work, samples of treats made with their fresh veggies, sweet pickles to taste. Islesboro: Islesboro Central School, 159 Alumni Drive, island of Islesboro. Friday, Sept. 27th at 6:00 pm is a locally themed pot-luck supper in the garden, featuring music, candle-lit garden tours, campfire, apple pie contest and cooking with school chef Jonny.  Saturday, Sept. 28th from 9:30 to 11:30 am is the Harvest Celebration including outdoor fall games and activities (apple pressing, pumpkin carving), a cross country meet and fun run, and community service projects in the garden.  Bus transportation to the school is provided from the ferry terminal.  Islesboro is a 20 minute ferry ride from Lincolnville. Machias: Rose M. Gaffney Elementary School*, 15 Rose Gaffney Road, Machias. 10:00 to 2:00; first join the work party (help put the garden to bed) from 10:00 to noon, then from noon till 2:00 bring food to share, and enjoy an infoparty with cooking demos, garden games and tours of the garden and the greenhouse which is under renovation. Phippsburg: Phippsburg Elementary School, The Amazing PES Kid's Garden, 1047 Main Road. 10:00 to 3:00 pm; garden tours, plant sale (perennials, seeds and houseplants); don't miss their Haunted Garden coming up on Friday, October 18, 6:30-8:30 pm (rain date October 25).
